INTEREST CHECK & QUESTIONS

Hello! Here is an interest check for Basythia, the Midnight City, a panfandom team game (with optional-ish amnesia) based around purifying a corrupted underwater domed city and the gods that serve it. See game nav link for more info.

Apps will likely open the first week of February and the game itself will open the last week of February, barring any emergencies.

Questions can be asked below or on the FAQ itself (FAQ preferred!), but this post's purposes is mostly for some sort of headcount for interested parties.

Discord server link as well for anyone who would like to vibe while setup is finishing.

APP QUESTIONNAIRE
APP RULES

✧ 1. For the time being, you may only app one character.
✧ 2. Doubles are allowed on a case-by-case basis, with one canon and one AU of any type, and the players must agree to it. This does not apply to characters who have canonical alternates, i.e. Vash from Trigun Maximum or Trigun Stampede, or Bronya from Honkai Impact 3rd or Honkai Star Rail.
  • If you do intend to app a double or a "canon au" character such as the above, PLEASE talk to the original players first.

  • ✧ 3. PGAU and CRAU characters are allowed, with heavy memory modification/corruption/memory replacement. They cannot remember their pg/crau upon arrival.
✧ 4. Self-insert/silent protags are mostly not allowed: please see the FAQ for details.
✧ 5. Original characters are allowed.
✧ 6. Character swapping without losing your place on a team is allowed within the first month of the app, but after that will require the player to drop and reapp.
✧ 7. Team swapping is case-by-case and may require the player to drop and reapp, depending on the situation. If a team is not working out for OOC reasons, contact basythiamods@gmail.com
✧ 8. The app questionnaire is to be answered entirely in character, with a compulsion towards honesty. Treat it less like the character is filling out a form and more like something if rifling through their mind for the answers.
✧ 9. All players are required to choose three (3) memories from their character for them to lose upon revival in Basythia, with at least one of them being significant to them. This can be any kind of memory.
  • This is NOT permanent, but will be replaced by "implanted" memories. Characters will have the chance to regain them later.

  • Comment to this post with the subject line: APPLICATION | CHARACTER NAME | CANON

    Comments are screened.

    OOC

    name:
    18+? Y/N
    contact: Discord is required.
character name & canon: Please note if they're AU, PG/CRAU etc here.
Are you willing to have your character be put in the position of Praecordis/team leader? Do NOT say yes to this if you do not intend to play for more than a few months, or are historically a bit of a flake lol. Stability is a necessary trait of players who wish to engage with this. Additionally, please choose your character carefully for this position: they are going to be in a position of care for others, in addition to themselves.
Preferred teams: Your priority teams you'd ideally like to be placed on.
Acceptable teams: Teams that are fine to place your character in if your priority is not available or you do not want to wait for an opening.
Anti-requests: Use this space to note whether you'd want to avoid a team or specific player (even if you don't think they will app here) you cannot/do not want to be on a team with, for whatever reason.
Canon Character Summary: Please give a BRIEF description of your character and their canon.
Please give a briefly detailed list of THREE (3) memories your character has, with at least one of them being significant (memory loss is not permanent but may remain for some time):

    PRAYERS & FAVORS

PRAYER is the primary method by which the corruption is purified. Prayer can be invoked anywhere within Basythia simply by uttering the god's name and harboring the intent to pray to them, though it must align with their realm of control in order for it to reach them. For example, one would not hold a prayer to The Nine Faces for protection while exploring a flooded area, as this would fall under The Silent River's purview. Gods will also have specific methods of prayer tailored to them, that others may be called to join. Holding group prayers will multiply purity per character that engages with it.

Prayer may be held individually or as a group, but must always be "on-screen" for the purposes of the game. Personal purity is tracked by the player on a "I trust you not to go nuts" basis, teamwide purity will be tracked by the mods ! HERE ! for the purposes of purifying things related to the gods or the city at large.

    ✧✧✧✧✧✧

FAVORS are personal mini-quests or tasks given to individuals or small groups for the purposes of requesting something specific of the gods. Prayers can be invoked while a character completes a "favor" task but is not required as the favor itself is already a direct request from one of the gods. This is the method one would use to obtain individual items, such as personal clothing, specialized food or toiletries, toys, games, weapons, and small furniture. Larger requests can be made with larger groups of people, for things such as furnishing whole rooms or more difficult requests such as healing.

    THE GODS & THEIR CONGREGATIONS

There are many gods to offer prayer within the Midnight City, but only six of them have the honor of being central to the city’s identities as a whole– each city wedge both named after them and being the places where the majority of their followers live and work. With modernization and time, the divine influence of the gods has faded into casual respect and tribute, with only the most devout upholding regular prayer. Now, with the dipsao so virulent in the city’s streets, all that remains of the civilians who once called these city wedges home is merely the knowledge these places had once been lived in. Each wedge of the city is named after its patron deity, and this is where characters will find that their congregations’ personal sanctuary– or Aedis– lies. Each section of the city has its own aesthetics and personality… or used to, anyway. Architecture and decorations only go so far now when there are no people living among them.

    ✧✧✧✧✧✧

The congregations now have been summoned from death to serve their patron gods and do what they must to purify this corrupted land. They are connected to each other through a mysterious bond, one that allows them– with focus– to identify the approximate position, health, thoughts, feelings, and “scent” of their kindred. Congregants may dress however they wish, so they may identify which god they serve by the warding symbols branded into the back of their hands. They can also check their fellows’ distinct accessories at a glance to see who’s who, as each god has their own aesthetic preferences.

✧ All congregations are led by the Praecordis– the protector and leader of their group and speaker for their patron god. The Praecordis holds the important task of keeping peace and harmony among their congregation, as well as balancing the corruption within their fellows: if one is simply too overwhelmed by the dipsao to keep themselves under control, the Praecordis should either do their best to calm them or, failing that, absorb their corruption into themselves. The Praecordis have a much higher threshold for corruption than the rest of their congregation due to their divine connection. Breaching this threshold, however, may come at a permanent price. Their position over their congregation also allows the Praecordis to make use of their influence over the mutual bond itself to force their will or desire upon the target… but this is not foolproof nor does it lack consequence.

    THE NINE FACES ✧ #864A97

The Nine Faces is the god of humanity, sensuality, the self, illusions, and fire. Most prayers to them consist of wishes and desires for love and sexuality, luck with performances, and even spiteful curses against others. This is the god to pray to when you want something. Their followers tend to be free with their affections and fun and easy to get along with, and though spiteful when crossed they often get over it quickly.

The followers of The Nine Faces are required to wear an almost Japanese-style white half-face (upper or lower) mask in the shape of a fox or cat, with markings in the gods’ preferred color, which will luminesce in the dark. The Praecordis is required to wear a full black mask with the same color, instead.

All followers of The Nine Faces are named after various predatory wild animals of the land. (ex: Tiger, Wolf, Mongoose)

    THE SILENT RIVER ✧ #3c6d96

The Silent River is the god of storms, rivers, life, and water. Prayers to them are mostly those requesting safe passage over or through water, safety from storms and floods, and well-wishes for parents, children, and general happiness of the living. Curses of prayers wishing harm upon others is deeply frowned upon, as followers usually have a very upright set of morals. However, when insulted or mistreated, they can hold long grudges.

Followers of The Silent River are required to have almost Chinese-style silk embroidery over the back of their shirt, robes, or dress, with a circular border. The image inside may depict snakes or fish with any flower of plant, on a white background with the accents in the god's preferred color. The Praecordis must have an embroidered dragon in the same accent colors. Only the accent colors glow.

All followers of The Silent River carry the names of freshwater fish. (ex: Tetra, Danio, Corydora)

    THE BLEEDING HEART ✧ #FFB8CA

The Bleeding Heart is the god of love, sacrifice, purity, death, and wood. Prayers to this god are often for good health and safety, love or affection, though there is a notable trend of invoking this god's name when attempting to barter one's own safety or happiness in exchange for another's. The Bleeding Heart is also frequently spoken of during funeral rites, regardless of the dead person in question's following in their life. Followers of The Bleeding Heart are sometimes self-sacrificial to a fault, and it takes a lot to push them past their limits, but they are steadfast friends and caring companions first and foremost.

Followers of The Bleeding Heart must wear a knitted shawl in white, with any pattern in the god's preferred color. The Praecordis must wear a black shawl. Only the pattern will glow.

Followers of The Bleeding Heart are named after plants, especially those that flower. (ex: Lavender, Plum, Sundew)

    THE LOYAL GUARDIAN ✧ #AC4F4F

The Loyal Guardian is the god of protection, dedication, justice, the home, and earth. Their prayers are most frequently invoked when desiring protection of the home, especially from danger or intruders, legal or social justices, and general well-wishing for home and family. Followers of this god are loyal and steadfast companions, and will rarely sway from a decision once they've made it or a person once they've befriended them-- unless doing so grates badly on their sense of justice, of course.

Followers of The Loyal Guardian wear a collar in white with small gemstones in the god's favored color, which glow. The Praecordis must wear a collar in black with a single large gemstone in the center of their throat of the same color.

Followers of The Loyal Guardian often are named for specific breeds of domestic animal. (ex: Brahma, Silkie, Collie)

    THE SCALED MIRROR ✧ #9FCF81

The Scaled Mirror is a relatively new god that arose to popularity very quickly, and for good reason-- they are the god of technology, advancement, good fortune, creativity by human hands, and metal. Casual prayers to this god often include exclamations of "PLEASE fucking work", desire for financial or business success, and well-wishes for future growth. Followers of this god tend to be fairly shrewd in many ways-- whether it's judging people, customers, or having a sharp eye for the quality of creative works. Despite sometimes coming off blunt or rude, The Scaled Mirror's followers tend to be some of the most imaginative in their creative endeavors and exceedingly honest when they do speak on feelings.

Followers of The Scaled Mirror must wear white gloves of any length with or without fingers, with circuitry patterns in the god's preferred color. The Praecordis must wear elbow-length gloves (which may be fingerless), in the same color circuitry patterns. The patterns luminesce.

Followers of The Scaled Mirror generally carry the names of insects. (ex: Dragonfly, Stag, Birdwing)

    THE GOLDEN WINGS ✧ #FBE38B

The Golden Wings is the god of travel, safe passage, weather, the elements, the harvest, and air. When one prays to this god it is most often for prosperous harvests or good weather or rain, as well as well-wishes for traveling friends or family. The followers of this god exhibit a certain amount of wildness in spirit, a freedom that even the walls of Basythia cannot fully contain. There is always a sort of restlessness in them, a wanderlust, which cannot be denied-- nor would they want to. Unfortunately, they also tend to be a bit closed off and often run from their problems.

Followers of The Golden Wings are required to wear a white sash with any geometric pattern in the god's preferred color, which glows. The Praecordis must have a black sash with geometric patterns and tassels in the same color.

Followers of The Golden Wings are always named after wild birds. (ex: Kite, Wren, Cassowary)

    SETTING

    THE BULLA

The dome in which the Midnight City resides. The Bulla is a massive glass dome that contains the city and keeps it safe from deep water pressure. It is made from unknown varieties of metal and glass which resist water rust and algae, though clearly have needed maintenance for some time. The top of the Bulla sits many stories above the tallest buildings, though walkways and hanging buildings criss-cross its top. With the lack of light and the depths the city is at, it’s hard to see the top of the dome from street level.

Though now entirely defunct, each section of the city had their own access elevators to reach the top, but enterprising (or stupid) adventurers with a day or two to kill can still reach them through a series of ladders and accessways.

The dome itself has sprung slow leaks here and there, leaving puddles of seawater in places and flooding some underground facilities. Beyond the dingy glass is only darkness, the constant low rumble of ocean currents, and the occasional blink of colored lights that’re gone as quickly as they arrives.

    BASYTHIA

The Midnight City is called such because of the deep ocean zone it inhabits and the darkness surrounding it, this obvious from decaying murals and promotional images depicting the dome within a sea of stars and surrounded by the night sky. The city is circular and divided up into wedges, each belonging to a patron god… or simply used to name the neighborhoods. It’s unclear upon first inspection. Though places of worship and warding marks of the gods are apparent throughout all of their city sections, it often appears more decorative than functional.

The city is made up similarly to most modern human cities, with the amenities that come with it– accessibility for all walks of life (and perhaps even nonhuman species, judging by the way some things are shaped), restaurants and food stalls, theaters, parks, hotels, and apartments… All of these seemingly abandoned, many overtaken by the corruption.

All neighborhood wedges meet at a central point, the park in which the Sanctuary lies.

The Nine Faces district is all about enjoyment and entertainment. The architecture is neat and compact, with standalone homes and even larger hotels and apartments encompassing small courtyard gardens. Tiled roofs, sliding doors, and statuesque depictions of foxes and cats are common here… for those homes that haven’t fallen entirely to disrepair. Casinos, arcades, love hotels, bars, and other human vices once made this the brightest and most bustling part of Basythia.

The Silent River district handles the agricultural needs of Basythia. As such, this wedge of the city has many wide, open spaces, with most if not all farms being tier-style to optimize space. Multi-family homes and apartments are rare in this district, with the majority of homes being single-floor, single-family homes surrounded by privacy or protective walls or fences, with the main feature being a (usually paved) central courtyard or a water feature, with the building itself raised off of the ground. Decorative elements were often carved wood and rooftop ornamentation of fish and dragons, though many have been destroyed or gone missing over time.

The Bleeding Heart district is all about simple, idyllic cabin life. The area countains plenty of natural trees, ponds, and rustic housing that once contained small hobby gardens or personal food plots. There's plenty of well-kept walkable trails and open park space, and within this wedge you are likely to find many chapels and churches, all pointing to a more devout following than most, though most of their murals and stained glass have been destroyed. You may find the odd figure of a unicorn here or there, though.

The Loyal Guardian wedge is all semi-urban and suburban sprawl, perfect for the average person. It's full of walkable city planning, differentiated vehicle street lanes, and other forms of family-oriented living. Accessibility is the name of the game, here: there are always retail, grocery, and other communal shops within easy reach for all walks of life. Or there used to be, at least. Homes in this wedge are often single-family homes and small-building apartments, where neighbors can negotiate a perfectly happy distance where they choose to live by others, and always protected by images of friendly-looking dogs.

The Scaled Mirror wedge is full of psuedo-brutalist architecture. Huge imposing walls and buildings, factories, workshops, and technological or creative centers fill every free space here. Most buildings have few-- if any-- windows, so it's hard to tell what's residential and what isn't. In the corruption's silence, the massive walls and fences are terrifyingly imposing, but it's easy to tell this was once a noisy and bustling area-- everywhere, from border fences to plain factory corners, is decorated with faded artwork: graffiti, murals, faded mirror mosaics, and other street art have left their artists' marks.

The Golden Wings wedge has very little in the way of permanent housing, and despite living within an enclosed city their followers have found ways to stay in motion: carriages, campsites, and RVs were all common sights, though now abandoned and derelict. There's very little in the way of roads here, save for Basythia's public transport, but within the expanse of parks and small-scale wilderness are plenty of places to walk through. Shops all tended to be on-the-go types of retail, and the few permanent fixtures seemed to have been more for the sake of travelers passing through than anything else. This wedge is also full of miniature shrines to their god, the lantern-birds especially seen along well-traveled paths.

    THE SANCTUARY

A small park square that lies within a larger circular central park in the very heart of the city. The fountain in the center depicts a coiled serpentine figure, wrapped around a glassy dome; water was clearly meant to pour over it and spill into the pool below, but it’s long run dry. What should have been a lush garden and trees surrounding it have also dried and withered, black in the dim light. The entire place is unkempt, and the only sign of human activity whatsoever seems to be the hastily-painted warding symbols of the gods facing their respective neighborhood wedges.

The corruption cannot enter here, kept at bay by the barrier the symbols create.

    COMMUNAL/THIRD SPACES

The city has many amenities, including parks, theaters, malls, and other spaces where people are intended to congregate and simply exist and socialize. However, spaces that have not been claimed by the corruption are few and far between, and will require some searching– or purifying.

    TRANSIT SYSTEMS

Basythia’s extended transit network consisted of many things, easily discoverable by wanderers: carriages lay broken or abandoned on the edges of streets or parking stables where they were stored, clearly meant to be harnessed to some sort of beast. Long cables meant to carry some sort of car to transfer people from tall building to tall building, empty, some of their cabs hanging listlessly in the air. A rail system below the streets, the maps all concentric circles and tunnels connecting between the stations.

All of them entirely lack function or power, and like most of the city, many stations and hubs are overtaken by the corruption entirely.

    EVERYWHERE ELSE

The Midnight City’s infection of dipsao cannot be understated: even traveling from home to Sanctuary may come at a cost. There are places more dangerous than others, of course, especially within each city wedge. The corruption pools in dark and quiet places of human pain and regret, shame and misery. It leaches into home and business, into the shadows where fear comes alive, and coaxes those who long for the void into its embrace. It yearns for life, in whatever form that may be.

While the corruption infects spaces it has also infected creatures and animals… or perhaps reimagined creatures that used to exist. Many of them prowl the streets and are dangerous to approach, but others simply seem to be just existing, however that may be.

While creatures may appear to be organic, never assume this is the case.

    (PROBABLY) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    App & Play Questions

✧ What kind of characters can I play?

Characters from any media canon, original characters, and OCs from canon universes are all playable. Newly released canons/characters must be at minimum a month old before becoming appable.
  • Silent protagonists (ex: pokemon, fe3h, etc) may be playable on a case-by-case basis.
  • CRAU/PGAU characters may be playable with significant amnesia.
  • Malleable MMO and RPG protagonists (ex: FFXIV, Baldur’s Gate 3) are not playable.
  • All characters should be at minimum 17 years of age.

  • ✧ Do characters keep their canon powers?

Characters do not have full canon powers. They arrive with a ghost of their canon powers and will be exhausted trying to use them too much. Examples below:
  • Shooting fireballs -> small hand lighter amount of fire
  • Growing plants to maturity -> germinate one seed
  • Psychokinesis -> bend a single spoon halfway
Some powers will be unavailable entirely due to overlap with powers obtainable within the game from gods or otherwise. This includes healing, forms of telepathy/empathic bond/magic gps/etc, and purification holy or otherwise. This may change as the game progresses.
  • Characters MAY regain powers... eventually.

  • ✧ My character has really weird death circumstances, will this be a problem?

Probably not, but ask below for more specifics.

✧ My character was killed in (gross brutal way/disappeared into sparkles/eaten/really wrinkly and old/etc), will they awaken like that?

No, they will revive at their “peak” (ie, whatever physical appearance you want to play them as with some exceptions-- see below) and be more or less whole and healthy.

✧ What if my character has prosthetics/an android body/non-flesh/etc? Where does their scar/brand go?

Characters with non-flesh prosthetics/robot parts/etc will be revived with entirely flesh bodies– they will have opportunities to regain their “real” bodies later. If for some reason this is impossible (i.e. playing a sentient robot/ai/ghost/shadow monster type with no flesh form whatsoever) comment below and we will discuss options for you.

    ✧ Who can app?

    Anyone!

✧ Can I play more than one character?

    Not at this time.

✧ What are activity requirements for the game?

AC will be 30 comments monthly, with a minimum requirement of one (1) thread with teammates and one (1) thread with anyone else, OR running a prayer post where the host is present and threading.

    In-Game Details

✧ What if my character really doesn’t want to survive/etc?

Whether they wanted to or not before, they no longer have any choice in the matter. Whether this manifests as an “outside” force to their thoughts or their natural instincts taking over is up to the player to decide. Choose what’s most fun!

✧ What does “somewhat optional” amnesia mean?

Characters will be afflicted with very spotty amnesia: gaps in memory, memories feeling “sticky,” or having memories entirely replaced with visions of unknown places, people, or things. The intensity of these and the content can vary between players and I will help curate.
  • All characters will lose memory of their name.

  • ✧ What is the “dipsao?”

    Another name for the corruption.

✧ So what is “the corruption?”

The corruption is a mysterious substance that infects and infests biological matter within Basythia, and outside of it. This includes your character. Think of it like black slime mold.

✧ You mentioned monster transformation before. What’s that about?

The corruption can manifest in a few different ways, but primarily will show itself with heightened emotions or physical stimulus, usually resulting in a beastly appearance (or partially so). How exactly this manifests aesthetically is up to the player.
  • The corruption is always black, viscous, and may be oily or sticky to the touch. While it can mimic the appearance of things like fur, feathers, or scales, it will not feel like them. Characters should get used to being slightly gooey during these times.

  • ✧ What makes a character transform?

Heightened emotional or physical response. The severity is up to the player.

✧ What happens if a character gets injured/killed?

Generally, their corruption will temporarily worsen. How this manifests will depend on the way they were harmed, so hit up a mod.

✧ Do characters have to play in games to gain “purity?”

No, purity from games is team-wide. Personal purity is won through joining and leading prayers, but can also be pooled for the team.

✧ Why should my characters care about purifying the corruption?

They don’t necessarily have to, but they will know instinctively that not doing so will likely be apocalyptically bad for them, and regardless of their feelings on survival before they died they certainly have the drive to survive now. They’ve been brought back to life, after all. Further details will be revealed through play.

    RULES

✧ 1. Be kind to your fellow players.

I think this is self-explanatory. Don't be an asshole, communicate with other players when issues arise, and pull in a mod if something becomes absolutely untenable. On top of this, respect your gamerunners, helpers, and all that shit.

✧ 2. Any significant issues should be sent to the mod email - basythiamods@gmail.com

This includes things like harassment or other player problems (with proof, please), irrevocably damaged IC issues that require things like team swaps, and other non-emergency complaints. Emergencies that need to be addressed asap can be thrown in mod dms but dont make this a habit.

✧ 3. You must be 18+ to join.

frankly if any of us are under 23 i'd be deeply surprised

    ✧ 4. No sock accounts

✧ 5. You must join the game discord.

Communication/easy reach is important in a team game, especially with your teammate players. ! SERVER LINK !

    ✧ 6. Don't godmode.

If your character didn't see or hear something directly in a thread, they won't know about it unless the players in question OOCly agree the information has been exchanged. Don't use ooc discoveries to impart ic knowledge your character would have no way of knowing otherwise, whether it's individual character things or plot things. In the same vein, please be sure to go by rule of fun or rule of cool or dice rolls or whatever to help settle IC conflicts of the pvp variety or similar. Communicate with your peers!

✧ 7. pepper has a full time job and responsibilities and may not be able to get to things asap so be kind

cmoooooon im just a little guy doing overtime at the offiiiiice. also i'm in EST so i realize this may delay some things, but I try to respond to stuff as quickly as I can.

✧ 8. rules are subject to change

this is my tyrannical rule sorry

    PREMISE & ARRIVAL

    CHARACTER ARRIVAL

Your character awakens in a small, dark Sanctuary, protected from the rest of the city by their patron gods: a simple park square, plants long withered and fountain run dry. The whole city is dark, though characters will find that they have adapted to it in the way of a nocturnal creature– wide pupils to take in every tiny bit of bioluminescent light available to them (or the very limited light filtered down from somewhere above them), though this does make them extremely sensitive to anything brighter than a soft glow.

The circular fountain is decorated with a number of symbols associated with the gods, one of which matches the marking carved into your character’s hand. Through this they will find their peers, and the direction in which their congregation’s personal sanctuary lies– the place where they can safely eat, sleep, and rest without fear of the dipsao reaching them.

Each congregation’s sanctuary is in a different neighborhood of Basythia, and while each looks aesthetically different they all share a basic commonality: it is a limited floor of a small apartment building, hotel, or similar housing arrangement, with shared rooms, the doors and walls hastily scribbled with the warding symbol of their patron god. These places are in good condition, with all furniture, fixtures, and other home decor looking as if they were all abandoned in a hurry. Personal sanctuaries have running water and mysteriously generate a small ration for each of the congregation twice per day, tailored to their needs.

Even if characters cannot find their peers by sight they will certainly be able to feel them– each character is apparently connected through their patron god and will be able to feel dim, vague senses of each other: emotions, thoughts, physical health, distance. Every member of the congregation has their own distinct “scent”; not an actual smell, but some sort of identifying feeling that differentiates them from others. Each congregation's Praecordis-- their "heart"-- is especially notable to their own; their position is always known, and their "scent" the strongest.

There is one more thing of note that a character may not notice immediately: no matter what they felt before, or how it may or may not have manifested, one thing is certain. Within their chest, their heart and mind, lies one very important and irrepressible prerogative. No matter the way, no matter the cost:

    You MUST survive.

    PREMISE

Basythia, the Midnight City is a panfandom team game based in an abandoned and deteriorating domed city deep beneath the surface of the ocean. Characters will find themselves forcefully raised from their deaths, however that may have been, and sorted under various patron gods to help cleanse the corruption that infests the city, the gods, and their own bodies.

Like many teamnesia games, Basythia operates on a system of “play games, win prizes” with the prizes being cleansing corruption more and more from characters, gods, or surroundings. The game will also feature prayer rituals unique to each team, through which the congregation and prayer leader will all collect “purity” which can then be used to further cleanse, or be offered to their gods in exchange for goods or services.

This game will deal with (somewhat optional) amnesia, frequent talk of parasite-like infection or monstrous transformation, and deep sea horrors. While not inherently a smut game, the game itself will be smut friendly and may be rewarded as a form of ritual should the characters choose to make use of it.
