(PROBABLY) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

App & Play Questions

✧ What kind of characters can I play?

Characters from any media canon, original characters, and OCs from canon universes are all playable. Newly released canons/characters must be at minimum a month old before becoming appable.
  • Silent protagonists (ex: pokemon, fe3h, etc) may be playable on a case-by-case basis.
  • CRAU/PGAU characters may be playable with significant amnesia.
  • Malleable MMO and RPG protagonists (ex: FFXIV, Baldur’s Gate 3) are not playable.
  • All characters should be at minimum 17 years of age.

  • ✧ Do characters keep their canon powers?

Characters do not have full canon powers. They arrive with a ghost of their canon powers and will be exhausted trying to use them too much. Examples below:
  • Shooting fireballs -> small hand lighter amount of fire
  • Growing plants to maturity -> germinate one seed
  • Psychokinesis -> bend a single spoon halfway
Some powers will be unavailable entirely due to overlap with powers obtainable within the game from gods or otherwise. This includes healing, forms of telepathy/empathic bond/magic gps/etc, and purification holy or otherwise. This may change as the game progresses.
  • Characters MAY regain powers... eventually.

  • ✧ My character has really weird death circumstances, will this be a problem?

Probably not, but ask below for more specifics.

✧ My character was killed in (gross brutal way/disappeared into sparkles/eaten/really wrinkly and old/etc), will they awaken like that?

No, they will revive at their “peak” (ie, whatever physical appearance you want to play them as with some exceptions-- see below) and be more or less whole and healthy.

✧ What if my character has prosthetics/an android body/non-flesh/etc? Where does their scar/brand go?

Characters with non-flesh prosthetics/robot parts/etc will be revived with entirely flesh bodies– they will have opportunities to regain their “real” bodies later. If for some reason this is impossible (i.e. playing a sentient robot/ai/ghost/shadow monster type with no flesh form whatsoever) comment below and we will discuss options for you.

    ✧ Who can app?

    Anyone!

✧ Can I play more than one character?

    Not at this time.

✧ What are activity requirements for the game?

AC will be 30 comments monthly, with a minimum requirement of one (1) thread with teammates and one (1) thread with anyone else, OR running a prayer post where the host is present and threading.

    In-Game Details

✧ What if my character really doesn’t want to survive/etc?

Whether they wanted to or not before, they no longer have any choice in the matter. Whether this manifests as an “outside” force to their thoughts or their natural instincts taking over is up to the player to decide. Choose what’s most fun!

✧ What does “somewhat optional” amnesia mean?

Characters will be afflicted with very spotty amnesia: gaps in memory, memories feeling “sticky,” or having memories entirely replaced with visions of unknown places, people, or things. The intensity of these and the content can vary between players and I will help curate.
  • All characters will lose memory of their name.

  • ✧ What is the “dipsao?”

    Another name for the corruption.

✧ So what is “the corruption?”

The corruption is a mysterious substance that infects and infests biological matter within Basythia, and outside of it. This includes your character. Think of it like black slime mold.

✧ You mentioned monster transformation before. What’s that about?

The corruption can manifest in a few different ways, but primarily will show itself with heightened emotions or physical stimulus, usually resulting in a beastly appearance (or partially so). How exactly this manifests aesthetically is up to the player.
  • The corruption is always black, viscous, and may be oily or sticky to the touch. While it can mimic the appearance of things like fur, feathers, or scales, it will not feel like them. Characters should get used to being slightly gooey during these times.

  • ✧ What makes a character transform?

Heightened emotional or physical response. The severity is up to the player.

✧ What happens if a character gets injured/killed?

Generally, their corruption will temporarily worsen. How this manifests will depend on the way they were harmed, so hit up a mod.

✧ Do characters have to play in games to gain “purity?”

No, purity from games is team-wide. Personal purity is won through joining and leading prayers, but can also be pooled for the team.

✧ Why should my characters care about purifying the corruption?

They don’t necessarily have to, but they will know instinctively that not doing so will likely be apocalyptically bad for them, and regardless of their feelings on survival before they died they certainly have the drive to survive now. They’ve been brought back to life, after all. Further details will be revealed through play.

I will have more questions later but rolls in

in re: the markings appearing on a character's hand, what if a character obsessively habitually wears gloves? this is really sort of two questions: 1) god flags aside, what is the clothing situation like, and 2) do their god markings glow or otherwise make themselves visible?

ok further big (ish) ones that have been lurking in my head all day:

In re: Name Amnesia, I presume that if two characters from the same canon were apped they would also lose each other's names, but is there a mod mandate on how far that extends? Do all other potentially applable characters become Nameless Soup Guys, can characters w/ partial memories still remember other names, etc?

In re: powers, where would things like "my character's species is stronger/has better eyesight/etc than a baseline human but in a non-supernatural way" fall? Still functioning as normal, dropped back like supernatural powers, secret third thing?

I'm sorry. I also wish I was not doing this. MOST CHARACTER SPECFIC QUESTION EVER under the click to expand, because spoilers.

Spoilers for The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy under here, specifically first ending and Retsnom Route, click here to expand
Okay, so. Major character Eito Aotsuki has a "cognitive disorder" (loc team's term not mine) that causes him to see all humans other than himself as literal monsters. Exactly what kind of monsters is left ambiguous, but as Eito puts repeated emphasis on how disgusting and ugly and gross and stinky they are, it's bad. (The fandom favors a direct reference to Saya no Uta Organ Goop Monsters. I haven't done Saya no Uta so my interp varies slightly, but that's not the point really.)

The fact that his vision is like this is like. the core of why Eito is like he is. He went from child terrified of his own parents to high-masking murderboy because he came to hate the monsters who only ever saw him as a problem to be solved at best. He hates humanity, and does genuinely have a strong sense of justice, but also, he's a biased source programmed to hate humanity from the get-go and everything else is justification.

And it makes his life measurably worse in addition to being core to his character, so normally I wouldn't ask! However, it is, *technically*, a supernatural power... because as established by one singular route, it is an objective human-and-human-adjacent species detector.

Because in the Retsnom Route branch, one of the other characters transforms into something human-passing (to other people) but objectively very much *not* human. And Eito (who doesn't know about this transformation) sees her the way other people do! He sees someone "normally" for the first time in his life, and it completely defines his actions in that route, so it's not something I can just write off as oversight from the writing team not communicating fully the way some of the other inconsistencies can be. (Though the fact that lobotimizing him also doesn't fix it is a minor point in support of it being not entirely neurological.)

So... can I keep it? (With a permissions post for the human detector element if that stays, which having that but erratic would be my preference, followed by dropping the human detection to have it just be a persistent Really Bad Time normal full sensory hallucination. Being without it entirely would be a mind fuck for Eito but one that I would only want to do for a temporary event, if that makes sense.)

(Also for clarity: I would not be apping from Retsnom I would be apping first hundred days/R0. it's just. flails my hands. why did the devs do this to me.)

so. this is less of a power and more uhhhhh science experiment, shinobu's blood is like. partially poison.

incredibly lethal poison. like 700 times the lethal dosage of her specific poison, poison.

    does this still apply?

also will abilities that are purely physical also be nerfed?

    [personal profile] oncedriven 2026-01-09 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
    in rough order:

Kill or not kill is pretty much entirely dependent on "how do you treat him" and "are your actions just/for the improvement of the world." in routes where he's shown mercy and friendship, Eito is And He Will Now Die For You; when he isn't, he's a traitor and saboteur. guy of extremes. That said, the empathy bond will almost certainly curb him before he's a danger to teammates; I don't want to write my whole app here about it though.

(There's no "kill instinct" - he reacts with fear and disgust by default, but murder is an active choice he chooses when he does it.)

As for route relevance, all routes start from the same physical starting point, so it's a safe bet that a thing that is true about a character's body/etc in one route is true in all of the others. This specfic situation just only comes up in the one route.

As for corruption/monsterization, that's somewhat a you question? my gut vibe is that corruption would lessen the distortion, but it would be a net zero in terms of amount of monster going on (distortion dropping as nebulous humanity score falls).

    [personal profile] oncedriven 2026-01-09 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Amount of perceived distortion does not decrease, but the type does (because the amount of real distortion is decreasing, but the hallucinations are different from what the corruption is actually causing).

There's not a backwards/corresponding hallucination where monsters seem human.

hello! if a thing (like an object, a song, or a story) is named after a character, will they also forget the name of the thing? or will they just forget the thing exists?

When you say a brief description in the application, is there about a word count we should shoot for/stay under? Or should we treat it similar to something like:

Series: Pokemon Adventures - The manga for Pokemon, a universe where people try to become the best battler with their magical animals called Pokemon.

Character: Giovanni, leader of Team Rocket (who wants to steal the magical animals to make money), who also wanted to take over the world and recently was reunited with his son that was kidnapped.

    re: naming conventions

Is there a limit for where the names come from (ex: can they only be earth based as we know it animals like Lion, or Sunflower) or could a Pokemon character use Pokemon animals/plants (Growlithe or Oran for example), or say The Last Airbender character use ones from there (Catowl or Moon Peach)
